BCCI planning SGM before August 10
There has been stoic silence from the officialdom of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since the Supreme Court delivered the verdict on the Lodha Committee recommendations. The top brass has been avoiding a comment even as the Lodha panel itself has been active writing letters to the state associations.

However, the first moves from the BCCI are likely to be made over the next few days. An informal meeting among the top brass is expected on Monday after secretary Ajay Shirke arrives in the country but the more important development will be a special general meeting (SGM), being planned before August 10.

The state associations have not been communicated as yet but a few members got in touch with president Anurag Thakur to discuss the way forward.

Thakur is understood to have told them that there would be a meeting in 12-15 days. The legal committee is expected to meet sometime before that.

The worry before the BCCI is that the since the verdict was pronounced, the Lodha Committee members, who have been authorised by the Supreme Court to oversee the implementation of the reforms, have been quite proactive and hands-on with the developments. There is every chance that they would not keep quiet if there is delay in implementing the report.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is holding its managing committee meeting this Sunday. No prizes for guessing about what the topic would be. Sharad Pawar, who is past 70, will have to relinquish the MCA presidentship and some important decisions are expected to be taken with regard to that. Pawar has been silent on the matter since the verdict came out.

“The meeting was to be about something else but now the main agenda is the discussion on Supreme Court judgement and its impact on the MCA. We would have preferred Mr Pawar to continue but the future looks bleak. I can tell you something about it only after Sunday’s meeting,” PV Shetty, MCA joint secretary, said.
