Attacking the BJP and RSS over the dalit thrashing incident, Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that “weaker sections are being terrorised and trampled upon in Gujarat”, a state that Prime Minister Narendra Modi projects as a “model.”

On a day’s visit to the state, the Congress vice-president travelled to Mota Samadhailaya village near Una town to meet the kin of the tannery workers who were beaten up allegedly by self-styled vigilante for skinning a dead cow on July 11. He told the family that he was “ashamed” of the incident and assured them of all help to get justice.

Mr Gandhi also visited the hospital in Rajkot where the victims and the people who attempted suicide during the protests that erupted across the state over the issue are admitted. “Today I went to the hosptial here, where 11 people from different parts of the state who tried to commit suicide are admitted Modiji talks about Gujarat model, but here whosoever raises his voice against their ideology, whoever asks for education, whoever stands against big corporates, is trampled upon and suppressed,” Mr Gandhi said.

It is a fight of two ideologies, he said. “On one side are Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Nehruji, Babasaheb Ambedkar, and on the other hand is RSS, Golwalkar and Narendra Modiji,” the Congress scion said and vowed to defeat the “RSS ideology” not only in the state but the entire country.
