Carlos Vives & Shakira’s ‘La Bicicleta’ Video Sparks Chart Climb

Carlos Vives and Shakira’s collaborative track, “La Bicicleta,” climbs 4-2 to a new peak on Hot Latin Songs (chart dated July 30) following the premiere of a vibrant music video (on July 8), shot in both artists’ native Colombia. Total streams for the track soar 173 percent, to 2.2 million weekly U.S. clicks in the week ending July 14 (according to Nielsen Music), with 72 percent stemming from YouTube views.
The release of the video also helps spur a 115 percent rise in digital downloads (to 8,000), pushing the track back to No. 1 on the Latin Digital Songs chart for a second week at the top (following its crowning debut on the June 18-dated list). “Bicicleta” concurrently debuts at No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100, scoring the first entry on the chart for Vives, and Shakira’s 18th career hit on the tally.
If “La Bicicleta” hits No. 1, it will mark the 11th leader for Shakira, and sixth for Vives.
Meanwhile, the song spends a fourth straight week at No. 1 on the Latin Pop Songs chart, with a 2 percent increase in spins.
Reik Collects First No. 1: Over on the Top Latin Albums chart, Mexican pop group Reik debuts at No. 1 with its Des/Amor, selling 2,000 copies, and scoring its first chart-topping set. The trio first landed on the chart in 2005 with its debut self-titled album, peaking at No. 34. Des/Amor is the band’s fifth studio set and follows their 2011 project, El Peligro (No. 3 peak).
Yandel’s Hot Shot Debut: Lastly, Yandel scores the Hot Shot Debut on Hot Latin Songs with his latest single, “Nunca Me Olvides,” entering at No. 28; 494,000 weekly streams aid the entry, as well as 2.8 million audience impressions at radio (a 112 percent increase). A music video released on July 12 has logged nearly 4 million worldwide views through July 21.
The debut marks Yandel’s second highest arrival (as a solo act), following “Hasta Abajo,” which entered at No. 26 in 2013 (it went on to peak at No. 9).
“Nunca” simultaneously jumps 25-18 on Latin Rhythm Airplay, scoring his 17th top 20 on the list.
