Mumbai: Over 2,000 residents of an Andheri residential complex have been left in a lurch after the only access road outside their society has been blocked for a week now due to civic work. The residents fear that even essential services like the fire brigade and ambulance vehicles will not be able to enter in case of an emergency. On Thursday, several residents of Sagar City Complex in Andheri west came out on the streets after the BMC road work caused them extreme inconvenience.
Jameela Tharola, secretary of Sagar City welfare association, said autorickshaws too are refusing to ply in the area as the work has ruined road condition as well.
“There are around seven highrise buildings in our complex with more than 2,000 residents living in it. While we are not against the BMC undertaking road work, but we are upset about the fact that it has been going on for over a week now. To add to our woes, the work seems to be moving at a snail’s space,” said Tharola.
Meanwhile, the BMC said a damaged storm water drain is being repaired. “The work should be completed by Saturday. In fact after monsoons a box drain would be put in place. The delay however is on account of utility cables running underground which needed to be changes,” said a civic official.
