Brazil police arrest 10 on suspicion of Olympic terror plan

Federal police in Brazil have arrested a group of 10, calling themselves Ansar al-Khilafah Brazil, on suspicion of preparing to carry out acts of terrorism during the Olympic Games. Authorities have maintained that while the suspects are not direct members of the so-called Islamic State, they had attempted to make contact with the terror organisation. The news comes just two weeks before the Olympic Games are set to begin in Rio De Janeiro. Further details about the operation are still unclear, however Brazil Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes has confirmed that all those arrested were Brazilian. Concerns regarding the safety of Rio De Janeiro’s Olympics has increased after the recent Bastille attack in France which left 84 people dead. The Brazil government has called an emergency cabinet meeting.
