Patna: Members of the minority forum of Bihar BJP, led by their national secretary Abdur Rehman, on Thursday burnt the effigy of CM Nitish Kumar to protest against the rearing of heads by what they called “pro-Pakistan” elements among members of the minority community in various parts of the state. They also demanded arrest of the guilty persons. The CM’s effigy was burnt in front of the state BJP headquarters on Veerchand Patel Path.
Around 50 BJP activists, including members of its minority forum and other wings, were present on the occasion. They shouted slogans against the CM, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and the three-party Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, JD(U) and Congress.
The Thursday’s protest was sparked by the unfurling of Pakistani national flag on Wednesday at the rooftop of a building at Biharsharif, the headquarters of CM’s home district Nalanda. The police have arrested two persons in this connection.
Besides, a few days ago, pro-Pakistan slogans were raised in a small procession of Popular Front of India (PFI) members held here, following which the police arrested one of them – Tausif, a resident of Makya village under Benipatti block in Madhubani district. The profile and background of his activities are under police investigation.
State BJP chief Mangal Pandey said the “separatist forces have been rearing their heads fast” in the state. He said the state is already scarred by “naxalism”, while “terrorism” has also formed a few of its modules, and now separatism, too, has been showing signs of its presence in the state.
After the burning of the CM’s effigy, Rehman alleged that the “pro-Pakistan” elements among Muslims have been rearing their heads under a conspiracy. “If the police do not arrest the culprits, we would gherao the house where the Pakistani flag was unfurled at Biharsharif,” he added.
