Dan Aykroyd seems to compare Donald Trump supporters to KKK members

Dan Aykroyd called those who criticized “Ghostbusters” actress Leslie Jones on Twitter "obese white men" who are "active Klan members" and are likely Donald Trump supporters.

“These people, they’re insignificant gnats, they’re losers, they have no lives of their own, they can probably barely pay for the wifi they’re using,” Aykroyd told Entertainment Tonight Canada. “Probably no jobs. I would say you’re looking at obese white men between 50 and 60 who are active Klan members or members of the Aryan Nation and there are millions of them.”

He added, “I’m afraid to say that that contingency will be voting for the Republican ticket.”

Jones revealed in a series of posts Monday night that she had been pummeled with racist tweets. She called the messages deeply hurtful and said she was in “personal hell.”

Aykroyd called the “white racist hatred” that Jones said she endured the type of thought that is fueling the Republican Party that backs Trump.

“That’s what the statistics are indicating, that there’s a lot of white racist hatred out there that’s going to channel into a support for the Republican ticket. Maybe in the false belief that these people share their views,” he said.

While Aykroyd doesn’t think Trump or his VP pick Mike Pence “are as racist as the people who attacked [Jones],” “Trump may be saying some things to go that way to get some votes.”

Aykroyd’s interview comes after Twitter permanently suspended the account of conservative provocateur and Breitbart.com tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos, who the social networking site claims led the harassment campaign against Jones.

Yiannopoulos told FOXNews.com that he doesn’t take responsibility for the tweets, and said the situation only escalated because Jones responded by “attempting to call her trolls names.”

“[Twitter] targets conservatives while letting the left, Islamists, and in particular the social justice warrior vanguard of the millennial generation get away scot-free with abusive, racist and harassing behavior,” Yiannopoulos told FoxNews.com in an email.
