NOIDA: A 23-year old jeweller was shot dead by some unidentified assailants near his shop on Thursday morning in Dadri. The deceased Varun Verma was son of Roopchand Verma, who has two jewellery shops in Dadri market.
The incident occurred at about 8 am when Verma was walking in front of his house. Two persons came on a bike and shot him multiple times.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, police said.
“One of the attackers was identified as Suraj, a local resident who was having a rivalry with the deceased. According to witnesses, Suraj came with one accomplice on a bike and pumped four bullets into Varun before fleeing from the spot. Varun collapsed and died,” said Anurag Singh, deputy superintendent of police, Dadri.
The police said Varun worked as a jeweller at main market of Dadri and he was having an old rivalry with Suraj over some monetary issue.
Body of the deceased was sent for postmortem, reports of which are awaited. A number of family members of the deceased gathered at the police station demanding arrest of the culprit. The jeweller association has condemned the killing and decided to meet SSP demanding justice.
“We have sought footage of all CCTV cameras installed at the locality to find out the escape route of the suspects. Neighboring police stations were alerted about the suspects and barricades were put at bordering areas,” said Singh.
