Mysuru: A city court has summoned district minister HC Mahadevappa's son Sunil Bose for questioning in connection with a 2010 bribery case. Sunil had approached the high court seeking exemption from appearing before the Mysuru court but his petition was rejected.
With this, Sunil has to appear before the III additional district and sessions court in Mysuru on Thursday.
The court hearing the petition of complainant Basavaraj issued summons to Sunil Bose to appear before the court.
The case
Alphonsus, an official attached to the department of mines and geology, was caught while receiving a bribe from Basavaraj on March 27, 2010. The senior geologist had demanded Rs 1 lakh to issue a permit to transport sand. Alphonsus was trapped by Lokayukta cops at his Kuvempunagar residence in Bengaluru.
After Alphonsus told the investigation officer that he took money on behalf of Sunil, the minister's son and his assistant Raju were booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Three years later, at the time of submitting the chargesheet, only Alphonsus was charged with the crime and the duo was left out.
Basavaraj, who worked as a manager with Nadakrishna, who runs a firm offering truck services, took objection to this and petitioned the court seeking its intervention.

The petitioner submitted evidence to prove his claim that Sunil and Raju too are part of the operation. After hearing the arguments and going through evidence, the court summoned the duo.
No interim order
The high court, meanwhile, declined to pass any interim order in respect of the June 4, 2016 order passed by a special court for Lokayukta cases in Mysuru, asking Sunil Bose and Raju to submit their reply in relation to a 2010 bribery case relating to transportation of sand.
Justice H Billappa, while adjourning the hearing on the duo's criminal petition, noted that Basavaraju is yet to be served a notice.
The judge observed that the petitioners could raise the contentions in their petition before the trial court when they appear before it.
