George Soros’ son’s playboy lifestyle in the Hamptons has made for some strange social situations this summer.
In one clash of cultures — thanks to his billionaire father’s status as a global power broker as well as a prolific Democratic donor — President Obama ended up hanging out with a New York City club kid who 30-year-old Alex Soros has tasked with wrangling a beautiful miscellany of models to hang at his mere $85 million Hamptons summer retreat.
We’re told that philanthropist and scion to the $24.9 billion Soros fortune Alex has been shuttling models, including Rachel Fox, Allie Fosheim and Lameka Fox, and fashion darlings such as Timo Weiland and Maxwell Osborne to and from his sprawling rental, Villa Maria — the gorgeous compound belonging to late shoe impresario Vince Camuto and his widow, Louise. Also enjoying Alex’s more-than-generous hospitality have been Knicks star Joakim Noah and music mogul Scooter Braun.
We’re told that longtime pal and New York City club fixture Adam Spoont — who is a promoter for hot spots the Monarch Room and the Gilded Lily — has been put in charge of model-recruitment for the summer, and did such a good job that he landed an audience with the president. Spoont got an invite to a Democratic fundraiser at Alex’s city apartment, and shook hands with Obama.
When he’s not eating lobster and sipping rosé on a pool floatie, Alex is a social justice and human rights campaigner with his own foundation, which, to be fair, does great work for the environment and with organizations like Global Witness.
A source close to Alex insists that the 1-percenter-plus-models slumber parties are actually low-key affairs. “He’s rented Camuto’s house before and he has friends out for the weekend. Some are celebrities. Some are models,” said the source.
The 22,000-square-foot 1920s mansion Alex and his friends have been enjoying is currently for sale. It boasts 11 bedrooms, “including a six-room, beautifully appointed master suite,” and sits on 17 breathtaking waterfront acres.
