Dhanbad: A 16-year-old Giridih girl, who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances last year, managed to escape from the clutches of her abductors in Kathmandu, Nepal and reached home on Tuesday evening.
The victim, identified as a resident of Handadih village under Giridih muffasil police station and a Class X student of a Pachamba-based government girls' high school, narrated the ordeal to her parents.
Consequently, she was taken to the concerned police station on Wednesday morning and later underwent a medical examination at Giridih sadar hospital.
"During interrogation, the girl said she was confined in a closed room somewhere in Kathmandu, Nepal. A few days ago, she managed to escape her abductors and reached home," said DSP Vijay A Kujur.
Kujur said the girl's father, who is a farmer by profession, lodged an FIR with Giridih Muffasil police on December 17 in this connection. According to the FIR, the 16-year-old minor was allegedly kidnapped by a local auto driver and his close aide. The men would often ferry school girls to school in Pachamba. "She was on her way to school at about 9 am on December 14 when she was kidnapped by the driver Anup Kumar Ram, who was waiting for her," Kujur added.
Kujur said though the victim returned home by herself, police had gathered information about the accused and their whereabouts in Kathmandu. "A team would have likely travelled to Kathmandu to rescue the victim under 'Operation Smile' in a day or two," he added. From July 1-20, about 15 minors, including child labourers, rape survivors and abducted children, were rescued from different places in Giridih.
