LOS ANGELES, July 20 (UPI) -- Alien: Covenant is celebrating its wrap with a new photo of Katherine Waterston.

The Prometheus sequel is finished filming and released a behind-the-scenes picture of the 36-year-old actress with director Ridley Scott on Tuesday.

"Filming has wrapped. The next phase begins. #AlienCovenant," the official Alien Anthology Twitter account wrote.

The image sees Waterston smile at Scott on set while dressed as her character, Daniels. The actress' short hair and outfit is reminiscent of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in Aliens (1986), sparking further speculation she plays Ripley's mom.

Prometheus and Alien: Covenant take place in the same universe as Alien (1979) and its sequels, but are not direct prequels or sequels to the film. Actor Danny McBride described Covenant as "dark" when he spoke to HitFix this month.

"[I initially thought I was] just going to be the silly comic relief. Then I got the script and I'm like, 'This [expletive] is dark. There is no comic relief in this at all. This is a dark horror movie,'" he revealed. "And that was exciting."

Scott, who directed Alien and Prometheus, previously told The Wrap the movie will explore the planet the engineers in Prometheus came from. Alien: Covenant opens Aug. 4, 2017, ahead of a new Alien sequel by Neill Blomkamp.
