Cabinet nod to setting up AIIMS in Gorakhpur

The establishment of the AIIMS will serve the dual purpose of providing super-specialty healthcare to the population.

The Cabinet Wednesday approved establishment of a new AIIMS at Gorakhpur in UP at an estimated cost of Rs 1,011 crore. “The establishment of the AIIMS will serve the dual purpose of providing super-specialty healthcare to the population while creating a large pool of doctors and health workers that can be available for primary and secondary level facilities being created under National Health Mission,” an official statement said.

Funds cleared for buying new EVMs

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved nearly Rs 9,200 crore to procure 5.50 lakh new ballot units and 5.45 lakh control units — the two units make up an EVM — during 2016-17. The Election Commission has proposed to buy nearly 14 lakh new EVMs ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
