The first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series will be released on 2 August on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS and Android. To celebrate the announcement, Telltale also released a first gameplay trailer for the anticipated adventure game.

Titled "Realm of Shadows", the premiere will be followed by a physical release of the game on 16 September (13 September outside of Europe) which will grant players access to the complete, five-episode season as and when new episodes are released.

The new trailer (embedded below) sets up the story, which sees Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego taking on the Falcone crime organisation as Harvey Dent – who eventually becomes villain Two Face – runs for Mayor of Gotham City.

Troy Baker plays Batman, with Travis Willingham as Dent, Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Jim Gordon and Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone.

Players will play as both Wayne and the Caped Crusader throughout the game, and must decide which to be when tackling certain situations. Decisions players make as both will influence the game world as the story progresses.

"We've been hard at work at Telltale creating an all-new iteration of the iconic Batman story that puts players in the suit of billionaire Bruce Wayne, just as much as it will put them behind the mask, deciding how to carefully navigate a complex drama, rich with action, crime, corruption, and villainy lurking around every corner of Gotham City," said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games at E3 in June.

"The complex life and fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne has lent itself to becoming a bold evolution of the signature Tellltale role-playing experience, and we couldn't be more excited as we prepare to debut the series to players across the world this summer."

Batman: The Telltale Series also marks the first Telltale game to utilise an upgraded version of the troubled engine which has beset the studio's other recent hits – such as The Walking Dead, Tales From The Borderlands and games of Thrones – with performance issues.
