Haryana to be new education hub, 'sanskaars' in syllabus: Rao Inderjit at Mail Today Education Conclave

"The Modi government is trying to impart sanskaar (values) to the present generation," said Rao Inderjit Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) of Niti Ayog, on Tuesday. The veteran leader opened the '5th Mail Today Education Conclave, 2016' at a glittering event at Lalit Hotel, Barakhamba Road, on Tuesday.

HARYANA, THE NEW EDUCATION HUB

The whole of Haryana is being turned into an education hub. "Institutions are coming up across Gurgaon, Manesar, Faridabad, Ambala, etc. A 'Skills University' is coming up at Palwal and a medical college at Jhajjar," he informed.

Haryana is also implementing PM Modi's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign in a focused manner. Inderjit said, "A basic requirement on the path to achieving 100 per cent enrollment of girls in schools is 'toilets.' We have almost done that."

SANSKAARS IN SYLLABUS?

"The present British education system is a gift of (Thomas) Macaulay," he explained, "Our colonisers felt they could subjugate the people of India, but not control their minds. So our traditional Gurukuls (schools) and guru-shishya parampara (traditions) were removed."

"Today, in most houses both parents are working and there is no teaching of life values," he rued. "Children do not know how to respect their teachers, care for elders? It is our work to catch them young?in the primary level and school them right," he said, describing his understanding of the word 'sanskaar.'

Inderjit, a four term Lok Sabha MP from Gurgaon, stressed that the Haryana is working hard to realise its education goals. "In our government-run schools, only 50 per cent students give the X and XII board exams," he said.
