: P. Madhusudhan Chary, grandfather of Banjara Hills road accident victim Ramya, succumbed on Monday to injuries he sustained during the incident earlier this month. He was 68.

Ramya and her grandfather, a retired government employee, were put on ventilator as they had sustained life-threatening injuries. Mr. Chary’s spine was broken and his lungs received fatal blows while Ramya had suffered multiple brain injuries. Both had also suffered multiple skeletal fractures. The child died about a week ago without regaining consciousness.

A private hospital where Mr. Chary was on life-support announced his death early on Monday and attributed it to multi-organ failure.

According to hospital officials, Mr. Chary was not comatose and was aware of his surroundings before his death. It is likely that the family had informed him about the fate that had befallen them. Sadly, his condition was said to be improving as doctors had performed three surgeries to save his life though he was on ventilator support.

Following the announcement of his death, family members held a demonstration at the hospital demanding the state punish the accused for reckless driving in inebriated condition leading to three deaths in the family.
