AMMAN — The State Security Court (SSC) on Tuesday began its hearings into the case of the two men indicted in a terrorist attack that claimed the lives of security personnel at the General Intelligence Department (GID) office in Ain Al Basha, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The two men adhered to the statements they gave to interrogators, the agency said.

At the end of the session, SSC Prosecutor General Brig. Gen. Ziad Odwan said the court set the beginning of August as the date of the next hearing.

On July 14, in the first hearing of the case, the two defendants pleaded “not guilty” to charges and in Tuesday’s session, the second defendant, who is accused of selling the weapons to the first, requested summoning two defence witnesses, who gave their testimonies in defence of both men.

According to the charge sheet, the first defendant is accused of committing terrorist acts that caused deaths, and committing terrorist acts using automatic weapons, while the other suspect is charged with selling weapons knowingly for illegal use, Odwan said.

The attack on the GID office took place on June 6 and left five personnel dead, including three officers who were guarding the office.
