Guest column: NHAI help will decongest traffic

A Satellite Ring Road to connect all the satellite towns outside Bengaluru is also being talked about.

There is clearly a need for a peripheral ring road or something similar so people can continue from the Tumkur national highway to the Chennai national highway without coming into the city and taking the Old Madras Road. We have messed things up by not doing this already.

The question now is what can be done about it now. Our options seem to be limited because we are having trouble even pulling off the peripheral ring road. The only way to accomplish all this is to involve the National Highways Authority of India which has considerable power to carry out the land acquisition and so on.

A Satellite Ring Road to connect all the satellite towns outside Bengaluru is also being talked about. This can partly fix the problem, except of course the distance that people will have to travel on it will be quite a bit, may be up to 30 to 40kms, but the speed will be good. In my view, expedition of the Satellite Ring Roads project and involving the NHAI in building bypass roads will help decongest the entry points into the city.
