Lucknow: Banthara police on Monday night arrested the man who shot dead a fair price shop owner Ashok Maurya on June 6.
Police had announced cash award of Rs 12,000 on the killer identified as Adil of Kalyanpur locality in Kanpur district. ASP (east) Shivram Yadav said Adil was arrested with the help of a crime branch team and Banthara police. He said Adil was arrested at Mohan Road in Banthara and a country made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
Police said Ashok Maurya's nephew Ankur was main conspirator and along with his brother-in-law Shrawan had given the contract to kill Maurya to Raja of Kanpur. Raja passed on the job to Javed and Adil. It was Adil who shot at Maurya killing him on the spot. Police had arrested Ankur, Shrawan, Raja and Javed in the connection while Adil had been absconding.
Ashok Maurya ran the fair price from his house in Sikandepur village of Banthra and was murdered on June 6.
Adil was a history-sheeter involved in crimes like loot, causing hurt and murder and was wanted by Kanpur police. The police teams which arrested him have been rewarded by DIG, Lucknow range, RKS Rathore.
