Ludhiana, July 19
The death of a 16- year- old girl who was found hanging from a tree near Big Bazaar on NH1 on July 16 was an honour killing, the police said today.
The girl’s father, Nirwair Singh, a resident of Barian village in Bijnor (UP), was arrested, while Lakha, her uncle, is absconding.
The police said Nirwair was upset over his daughter’s affair. SHO Varinderjeet Singh said, “He took her to his native village. He handed her over to Lakha, who killed the girl and hanged her on the intervening night of July 15-16 in a bid to to mislead the police.”
