NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- The premier matchup of the summer took place Thursday afternoon at the Nike Peach Jam, when No. 1 rising senior DeAndre Ayton battled No. 1 rising junior Marvin Bagley III.

Ayton’s team, California Supreme, got the better of Bagley’s Phoenix Phamily, 74-60 -- and Ayton also won the individual matchup. Ayton had 23 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks, while Bagley went for 15 points and seven rebounds.

The two players have plenty going for them. Ayton has been considered the best prospect in the 2017 class for three summers now, while Bagley’s performances over the past couple of years have put him in the conversation for best prospect in high school basketball, regardless of class. They’re both dominant performers, and they teamed up briefly at Hillcrest Hoops Prep (Arizona) last fall.
