KOLKATA: Two days after supporters of CPM and Trinamool Congress clashed with each other at Kasba near the local post office, the police have arrested one CPM supporter under non-bailable sections, slapping almost all major charges — attempt to murder, molestation and Arms Act against the accused. The Kasba police has identified the accused as one Nepal Bairagi, a resident of the local Jagannath Ghosh Road.

Police said that they have asked for police custody of the accused.
There was major drama when police went to arrest Bairagi. The police said that he had tried to flee and fell down. “The fall led to him sustaining fractures, but the police still dragged him to custody,” alleged the local committee secretary. The police, though, claimed that the accused was one of the four accused in the FIR and that they had taken him to the MR Bangur Hospital where he was attended to and his wounds dressed.
On the other hand, the CPM claimed that the accused was not even present at the spot when the incident took place. However, the police said they have evidence to prove the same.
“We have formed teams to nab the remaining accused,” said a top Lalbazar officer. Ironically, both minister Javed Khan and CPM leader Satarup Ghosh has claimed the local Kasba police was acting in a partisan manner.
According to the Trinamool Congress, their men were putting up a "Jago Bangla" mouthpiece on the notice board close to ward 91 of Kasba Trinamool office. It was then that the CPM supporters attacked the TMC men.

The CPM though claimed their two supporters, including one Tapas Haldar, was returning home from a shop where they work. It was then that TMC men attacked them and beat them up.
“Our supporters from Jagannath Ghosh Road opposed this. The Trinamool brought men from ward 67 and one local ruffian Pradip Haldar fired three blank rounds. Bombs too were hurled and acid bottles thrown at us. The trouble continued for three hours even as the cops watched. Four of our supporters’ residences were vandalized and eight of them were injured,” claimed local committee secretary Subal Purkait.
The police denied there was any firing or hurling of bombs.
