Hot Athleisure Line Outdoor Voices Raises $13M Series B (And Gwyneth Paltrow's An Investor)

This article is more than 7 years old.

Trendy athletic apparel brand Outdoor Voices has raised a $13 million Series B, bringing its total funding to date to $22.5 million.

The company, founded by Forbes 30 Under 30 list member Tyler Haney, announced its latest infusion of capital on Tuesday.

Among the company's investors: actress-turned-lifestyle-mogul Gwyneth Paltrow, who posted a recent Instagram shot of herself in Outdoor Voices' signature simple, chic fitness gear. Leandra Medine, the fashion blogger behind Man Repeller, is also listed as an investor.

The round was led by General Catalyst, who led the company's $7 million Series A in October 2015.

Haney, 27, took Forbes behind the scenes of Outdoor Voices' early days in a recent episode of the Million$ podcast, explaining why she thought her idea resonated in Silicon Valley boardrooms.

“I think the space is intriguing to big investors, looking at the Lululemons of the world, and how they were able to kind of bust through this more macho, traditionally competitive activewear scene,” she said.

“They saw me, this up and comer, addressing a pain point with an entire generation. Traditionally, these brands have been quite exclusive. I was coming to them saying, let’s think about activity differently.”
