Montini: Whoa…what? Melania Trump cribbed speech from Michelle Obama?

Who knew that the best speaker at the opening night of the Republican National convention would be … Michelle Obama?

No wonder people said Melania Trump gave a good speech.

The journalist Jarrett Hill pointed out that there were some striking similarities between portions of what Melania said Monday and what Michelle Obama said at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

This would get me fired

For example, Michelle Obama said in ‘08, “And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect…”

Melania told the Republican convention crowd Monday, “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.”

Hmmm.

MONTINI:If Trump was my boss, he'd say, 'You're fired!'

Very nice sentiment.

Although I don’t believe that cribbing another’s words is very respectful.

In my profession it will get you fired.

Don't work for your dreams? Copy others

Michelle Obama also said in ’08, “And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

And on Monday at the Republican convention Melania Trump said, “That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to many generations to follow because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

VALDEZ:Thank you, Melania, for finding common ground

So true.

Then again, if you don’t actually want to work for your dreams, you can simply copy the work of others.

Just make sure and pick someone worth copying.

Like Michelle Obama.
