Ministers receive terror attack alerts from cops
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon has admitted that he and his cabinet colleagues have received an alert of possible militant attack.
Speaking to journalists at his office at the Secretariat today, Menon said he received a short message from Dhaka police commissioner in this regard yesterday.
“The cabinet members can be attacked anytime. The gunmen of the ministers have been alerted. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has told us all to remain alert,” he said.
Though he said he and the other cabinet ministers “had nothing to fear from it,” regarding security issue he commented, “No security can stop them (terrorists) if they want to kill us.”
The Dhaka attack of July 1 created a sense of panic among citizens and raised questions on the capacity of Bangladesh’s intelligence agencies.
United States has offered Bangladesh to help in capacity building of law enforcers after the incident. However, Bangladesh has not still sought for help from US or any other keen countries.
Since then, Bangladesh has been on high alert with law enforcers beefing up security at Dhaka’s diplomatic zone and crowded public places like shopping malls and events.
SECURITY ARRANGED FOR TOURISTS
Minister Rashed Khan Menon today also spoke of adequate security measures taken for tourists visiting Bangladesh – in view of terrorist attacks targeting mostly foreign nationals.
According to him, airports of the country, including Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, has been covered in a tight security blanket.
