Watch Irrfan in Madaari trailer
Considering Madaari is a Bollywood film, Irrfan will mostly be all by himself in his fight: a one-man battle against the system. It is rare for our film industry to offer intriguing narratives that offer real perspective of how a single person is capable of taking on an entire society or system.

As Irrfan goes on overdrive with Madaari’s promotions, we bring you a list of films that had similar storylines:
A Wednesday
Perhaps the best of the lot: This Naseeruddin Shah-Anupam Kher-starrer remains one of the best thrillers Bollywood has seen. Naseer played a common man who is shaken out of his comfort zone after the Mumbai train blasts (2006) and goes on to eliminate a group of terrorists. The film, that was director Neeraj Pandey’s first, got him the National Award (2008).
Rang De Basanti
Aamir Khan’s Rang De Basanti (2006) redefined Indian cinema and the way the youth reacted to injustice. It wasn’t exactly a one-man’s fight, but a small group of friends acting against the state. The trend of the public coming out in the streets and questioning non-delivery of justice for others began with this film.

Shool
Manoj Bajpayee’s Shool (1999) showed a cop fighting against the corruption in his own department. He pays a heavy price as he loses his family during his battle, but continues the struggle nonetheless.
Damini
Meenakshi Sheshadri gave her career best performance in and as Damini (1993). She fought on behalf of her maid whom her (Damini’s) brother-in-law had raped. Damini’s fight was as much against her own family and society as it was against a male chauvinistic system.
