BENI:  A wounded snow leopard was found in Chhusang-5 of remote Mustang district on Monday evening.

Locals informed the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) officials after they spotted the injured endangered wildlife at around 7: 00 pm.

The injured leopard has wounded two of its limbs and preparations are being made to take it to the District Headquarters for the treatment, ACAP Chief Niru Thapa said.

Snow leopards (Uncia uncia) are found only in the mountains of central Asia and the Himalayas. The districts of Mustang, Mugu, Dolpo and Humla are the home for estimated 350-500 snow leopards in Nepal.

Despite ACAP's continual effort to save the snow leopard, its long-term viability is threatened by the conflict from livestock depredation and retaliatory killings, poaching, and loss of habitat.
