Tata Motors has ticked all the right boxes with the launch of its Tiago hatchback in India. The Tiago, which made its entry in April this year, has raked in over 23,000 bookings and is still counting. Tata is not keen to rest on its laurels and is now back to the drawing table to roll out the Tiago with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

The development of the AMT avatar of the Tiago was confirmed recently through a spy shot that showed it being tested on Indian roads. Now a latest report of MotorOctane states that the new avatar of the Tiago will hit the market before Diwali.

Tata, which has two AMT models in its line-up already — the GenX Nano and the Zest — is expected to offer the AMT box in Tiago petrol models. In the AMT model, the design and style will remain untouched and the only change will be the addition of the AMT box.

The Tiago, Tata's first offering to be based on its Impact design language, is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. It comes powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel mills. While the petrol mill churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.05- diesel engine produces 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Tiago claims to deliver a mileage of 23.84 kmpl for petrol and 27.28 kmpl for diesel.

The Tiago, which competes against the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and Chevrolet Beat in the mid-hatchback segment, is priced at Rs. 3.2 lakh for petrol models and Rs. 3.94 lakh for diesel models (ex-showroom Delhi).
