Three jailed and fined for gang-raping minor in Ganjam

The Ganjam district and sessions court here on Monday sentenced three persons to 21 years' imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 each for gang-raping a 17-year-old girl about three years ago.

Berhampur: The Ganjam district and sessions court here on Monday sentenced three persons to 21 years' imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 each for gang-raping a 17-year-old girl about three years ago.
District and sessions judge Malaya Ranjan Das also ordered the government to pay Rs 1 lakh to the survivor under the compensation scheme, said public prosecutor Jameswar Mishra.

The accused persons were identified as Babur Swain, 32, Kartika Gouda, 30, and Sanatan Rout, 30. The incident had taken place on October 23, 2013.
Police said the accused took turns to gang rape the teenage girl.
One of the accused had lured the minor girl for marriage and invited her to talk. Police had arrested all the accused on the next day of the incident.
The accused were in judicial custody since their arrest as different courts had rejected their bail pleas time and again.
The court pronounced the judgment after considering the statements of 10 witnesses in the court.
