Missing girl’s body found hanging in forest, parents allege foul play
Deputy commissioner Munish Moudgil called it a most heinous incident, and said the accused deserve to be hanged.
Chandrapur: Body of a 17-year-old girl was found hanging by a tree in forest area near Lawari (Siraspur) village in Chimur tehsil on Monday morning. Though the police have registered a case of accidental death, the girl’s parents suspect it to be a case of rape and murder. The girl Sunanda (name changed) was a native of Umanur village in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli.
After completing her matriculation, she had came to Lawari (Siraspur) to her aunt’s house seeking admission at Nevjabai Hitkarini Junior College in Brahmapuri. Sources said Sunanda got admission to the college and decided to stay in a rented room along with some fellow students. Accordingly, she returned to Lawari to bring her belongings. Sunanda left her aunt’s house on Sunday afternoon to go to Bramhapuri. As Sunanda did not inform her aunt about reaching Bramhapuri, her kin tried to contact her on mobile only to get the message that the number was out of reach.
On Monday morning, some shepherds found Sunanda’s body hanging to a tree with a scarf two km inside the forest. Her bag containing books and clothes was also found nearby. The shepherds informed the villagers about the incident, who intimated the girl’s kin and Bhisi police.
Sunanda’s parents, both government employees in Aheri, suspect foul play and claimed that their daughter was murdered and her body hanged to project it to be a case of suicide.
The police, however, maintained that they discovered nothing suspicious so far. No suicide note was found. Post mortem report too failed to give clues about any foul play. PSO Gajanan Kamatkar is further investigating the case.
