A local meal preparation company in Wheat Ridge that helps busy families easily assemble a month’s worth of dinners in an hour is holding a food packing event July 30 to put together 50,000 meals to give to needy people in Colorado and Haiti.

The couple hosting the event, Jim and Carol Eddy, hope to gather another 250 volunteers for the day to help with meal packing from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wheat Ridge Dream Dinners at 4980 Kipling St.

“Dream Dinners is committed to giving back to the communities they operate in. We’re so fortunate to be able to serve the Wheat Ridge community through various service and meal donation programs,” Jim Eddy said. “Volunteers will make such a significant difference in the lives of so many by simply donating a few hours of their time on Saturday.”

The Eddy’s have owned the Dream Dinners location in the Independence Square Shopping Center for 12 years.  They, along with Dream Dinners’ nonprofit — the Living the Dream Foundation — and California-based Friends and Family Community Connection are sponsoring and organizing the event.

Organizers in Wheat Ridge hope to package 50,000 meals — 16,500 that will stay in the local, low-income community, and 33,500 for people living in Haiti.

Dream Dinners will also host a canned food drive for the Arvada Community Food Bank that morning.
