Hyderabad: Excise and prohibition commissioner R.V. Chandravadan on Monday cancelled the licence of TGIF, which had served liquor to underage youth K. Shravil, main accused in the P. Ramya case. Shravil’s drunk driving led to the death of Ramya and two of her family members.
West Zone DCP A. Venkateswar Rao recommended to the Excise commissioner to cancel the licence of the bar. Mr Chandravadan issued a show-cause notice to the bar’s management to which an explanation was sent on behalf of TGIF and Bistro Hospitality Private Limited, which is the maintenance firm of the bar.
Authorised representative Ranjit Kumar Nayak said that Shravil had shown a fake age proof. About CCTV footage of Shravil and his friends, which the Excise officials had asked for, Mr Kumar replied that the CCTV cameras were non-functional that day.
The Excise department found similar lapses and was not satisfied with the explanation. Mr Chandravadan told DC that the licence was cancelled as the explanation was not satisfactory.
He added that the department had increased surveillance. “We have increased surveillance on bars, wine shops and pubs after the incident with coordination of the police department and are registering cases against erring parties,” he said. Excise and Prohibition officials also cancelled the licenses of two other bars and restaurants at Madhapur and Kukatpally for violating rules.
