Man loses Rs 12K after conmen swap debit card

A Kamothe resident, identified as Anand Raut (36), an employee with BEST undertaking, was targeted by two conmen when he had gone to an ATM kiosk of State Bank of India located on the main road in sector-6, Kamothe.

Navi Mumbai: A Kamothe resident, identified as Anand Raut (36), an employee with BEST undertaking, was targeted by two conmen when he had gone to an ATM kiosk of State Bank of India located on the main road in sector-6, Kamothe. Senior inspector Ashok Naik said, “Five days ago, the complainant had gone to an ATM in sector-6, Kamothe around 7.45 pm to withdraw cash.
Raut was operating one ATM machine where he could not withdraw money due to some technical problem. He told a man standing behind him to help. The man took Raut’s card, inserted it in the machine and told him to enter PIN. The stranger then swapped a discarded card with Raut’s card.”
“After 30 minutes, Raut received an SMS alert stating Rs 11,500 was debited from his bank account. he realized he had been cheated by the stranger. He immediately lodged a complaint at Kamothe police station.—
