Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has hired AZB & Partners litigation partner Sidhartha Barua as a litigation partner in Delhi with seven AZB fee-earners.

At AZB Barua was a member of senior lateral hire Percival (Percy) Billimoria’s team, who had joined Cyril Amarchand in May as head of Delhi and chair of the firm’s disputes, regulatory, advocacy and policy (DRAP) practice.

His AZB team joining him at Cyril Amarchand includes principal associates Umang Pathak, Juvraj Singh Bindra, senior associate Manpreet Lamba and Shaurya Singh, and associates Akshat Razdan, Madhav Khosla, Shivank Singh.

Managing partner Cyril Shroff commented in a press release that: “We are already over 90 fee earners (including 14 partners) across the firm in the disputes practice.”

Billimoria commented in the release: “Having worked with Sid for long now, I would always like him to be part of my team, and count on him as my able lieutenant. I couldn’t be happier to welcome the rest of the crew too. Thank you.”

Barua added in the statement: “Having worked with Percy at AZB closely, it was a natural choice to continue the working relationship we have, and Cyril Amarchand is the ideal platform for me as it has been for my mentor. I look forward to my new stint and would like the add value to the firm, which is looking to expand its disputes and litigation practice aggressively.”

Barua specialises in dispute resolution, anti-trust and corporate advisory, acts in the Supreme Court and also represents clients before arbitral tribunals constituted by SIAC at Singapore, courts and tribunals such as the Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) and the Company Law Board (CLB), including in proceedings before various investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and Serious Fraud Investigation Office, according to the press release.

He was appointed additional advocate general in the State of Meghalaya in December 2015.

The 2002 Delhi University Faculty of Law graduate also holds a 2004 LLM from Warwick University.

He also holds a 1999 History BA from St Stephens.

According to market rumours Cyril Amarchand Mumbai partner VP Singh may move to AZB, though nothing has yet been signed.
