ASTANA (Sputnik) — Kazakh Interior Ministry has earlier put the death toll at four, including three policemen and one civilian.
"As a result of attack, five policemen and civilians were killed, another seven were wounded," the authorities said in a statement.
A group of unidentified gunmen opened fire at policemen earlier on Monday in what Kazakh Presient Nursultan Nazarbayev described as "terrorist act."
At least two men were involved in a shootout with Almaty law enfocement earlier in the day, both suspects were later detained.
According to latest reports, the level of terrorist threat in Kazakstan's largest city has been lowered from "red" to "yellow."
