Farm suicides reduce in Yavatmal by 44% in 6 months

Baliraja Chetana Abhiyan Starts Yielding Results
Farm suicides reduce in Yavatmal by 44% in 6 months
Yavatmal: Belying the claims by political opponents alleging failure of BalirajaChetanaAbhiyan, launched to curb farmer suicides, the data released by the district administration indicates that there is noticeable decline in such incidents in Yavatmal during January 2016 to June 2016 as compared to the same period of the previous year.
District collector Sachindra Pratap Singh has dubbed the decline in suicides as a positive result of the successful implementation of the Baliraja Chetana Abhiyan.

It may be recalled that Baliraja Chetana Abhiyan was launched as a pilot project in suicide-prone Yavatmal and Osmanabad districts with an aim to make these districts suicide-free. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had vowed to make these districts suicide-free in two years.
“Keeping this goal in mind, the Abhiyan was launched in July 2015. The Abhiyan slowly gathered momentum and has now become people’s programme and it is showing results,” the collector said.
“As part of the Abhiyan, the administration spread awareness among the masses about various government-sponsored welfare schemes and urged farmers to avail the benefits. Gradually, the administration’s efforts are bearing fruit,” project director and resident district collector Rajesh Khawle said.
