Kabali promotion: How corporates cash in on Rajini brand

Kabali mania has literally gripped corporate India. The latest flick of superstar Rajinikanth, slated to release on July 22, has beaten all records in promotion and pre-release business with several corporate companies rushing to get on to the marketing bandwagon.

From a Kabali-themed aircraft to silver coins embossed with the Thalaiva's image, the movie promotion team is leaving no stone unturned to up the frenzy.

Sky is the limit

Kabali mania touched the sky with AirAsia, the official airline partner of the film, announcing the launch of a special aircraft to Chennai for Rajini fans to watch the film's premiere at the superstar's hometown. The Airbus A-320, painted with the actor's image from the film, began its operations on July 1 spanning Bengaluru, New Delhi, Goa, Pune, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Guwahati, Imphal, Vizag and Kochi. AirAsia flights have been prominently used in a few important scenes in the film.

Telecom major Airtel has launched Kabali exclusive products and services, including Kabali recharge packs with unlimited 2G internet, Kabali hello tunes and Kabali-branded SIM packs. Airtel customers can wish the actor directly via an exclusive SMS channel. What more? A 3D holographic Airtel Kabali van will go across Tamil Nadu running the movie teaser.

Kabali silver coins

Now you have a chance to get silver coins with Rajini's image embossed on them. Kerala-based Muthoot Fincorp is all set to roll out 999 pure coins which will be available at its branches. The coins will be available in denominations of 5 gm (Rs 350), 10 gm (Rs 700) and 20 gm (Rs 1400). Though bookings will open on July 15, the coins will be available only after the release of the film.

Exclusive digital poster

PVR Cinemas, the official multiplex partner of the film, is offering an exclusive digital poster with the PVR logo. The poster is up for sale on its website. The merchandise will also be available at various PVR Cinemas centres across the country.

Superstar ka 5 Star

Ramesh and Suresh, the hilarious twins from the Cadbury 5 Star commercials, will visit college campuses in Tamil Nadu to promote the film as Cadbury has entered into an official partnership with the filmmakers. It has also released a special Kabali TV ad.

Faces on cases

Get hold of snazzy mobile phone cases and coffee mugs printed with the superstar's photos and famous movie dialogues. Cover It Up, a company which brings out mobile skins and coffee mugs has entered into a partnership with the makers of the film.

E-commerce frenzy

E-commerce major Amazon also has its share in the pre-release business. Kabali key chains, wax statues, portraits, posters and other memorabilia are up for sale on the online marketing platform.

A startup tribute

Freshdesk, a Chennai-based startup, is planning to arrange a special screening of the movie for all its employees. The company, which has over 300 employees, is also planning to book an entire show at Sathyam cinemas in Chennai. The company had done the same with Kochadaiiyaan and Lingaa as its founder, Girish Mathrubootham, is an ardent Rajini fan.
