CHENNAI:
Hernan Crespo doesn't always find a mention among Argentine legends, but his records speak of something else. He is the third highest goalscorer with 35 strikes for his country and is placed only after the great Lionel Messi and
Gabriel Batistuta. Messi's international retirement after Copa Centenario defeat has sparked a lot of debate, but Crespo feels the Barcelona legend is not to be blamed for Argentina's final losses in recent times.
"I hope our team win but I don't want to say that Messi was at fault.
He played very well and he was the star of the show. He is the top scorer of the national team and is the best player in the world. I feel he was unlucky not to finish on the winning side," Crespo said.
Although Argentina appointed Julio Olarticoechea as the head coach of the Rio Olympic team, Crespo said
Atletico Madrid coach
Diego Simeone can be a perfect candidate for the job. "He has enjoyed a lot of success with the Atletico team. So he is definitely an ideal man for the role," said Crespo.
