33 estate workers injured in accident near Kotagiri

Thirty-three estate workers, all women, from Kodanadu tea estate near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris were injured in a truck accident which took place inside the tea estate on Sunday.

Udhagamandalam: Thirty-three estate workers, all women, from Kodanadu tea estate near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris were injured in a truck accident which took place inside the tea estate on Sunday.
According to sources, the 33 workers had boarded the truck after their day's work. They were to be dropped off at their respective homes located within the tea estate.
Due to heavy rain on Saturday, the estate roads were wet and slushy. Consequently, the truck toppled, injuring all the passengers. "At least 15 of them have been seriously injured," said a source at the scene. The injured were taken to the government hospital in Kotagiri.
Balachander, Kotagiri police town inspector, said he was not aware of details regarding the accident. The Coonoor DSP, Subramanian, said he was on leave and thus was not aware of what had happened. Balachandar, the Kotagiri town police inspector, declined to share details about the accident.
