Motorist killed in accident

A. Sakthivel (27) of Nattukalpalayam was killed in an accident involving his motorcycle and a lorry on Nattukalpalayam-Kanjampatti Road on Saturday, said the Gomangalam Police. They said that the lorry driver drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and hit the motorist who was moving in the opposite direction. The motorist died on the spot. Pillion rider M. Karthikeya (20) sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Pedestrian dies

Pedestrian K. Nachimuthu (75) was killed in an accident on Coimbatore-Arasur Road on Saturday evening. The Sulur police said that the driver of a car drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and knocked down Nachimuthu who died on the spot. The police have registered a case against the driver.

Woman dies of burns

Rafia alias Chitra (39), wife of Annadurai, of Sirumugai, died of burns at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Saturday. The Sirumugai police said that the woman had sustained burns a week ago on July 9 while cooking. Her sari caught fire in the stove and she was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. The police registered a case in this connection.

Case registered

The R.S. Puram police have registered a case against Ramesh, Nagaraj, Shyamala, Sabari, Sriram, Nandhakumar, Suresh and another person on the charge of threatening S. Chinnadurai (58) of Kallakurichi, Villupuram.

The police said that Ramesh, Nagaraj, Shyamala, Sabari and Sriram had rented Chinnadurai’s place on Sir Shanmugam Road to run an eatery.

A few days ago, the five got together with their friends with deadly weapons and threatened Chinnadurai. They also warned him of dire consequences if he were to approach the police. Based on Chinnadurai’s complaint the police have registered the case and begun inquiries.
