CTV has learned Sanjai Prasad, 41, was shot by police at the So-Bow condo complex on Friday after reports that four men were prowling cars.

Police say they found an SUV circling the parkade and refusing to stop before crashing into a parked car.

Police blocked the exits of the building’s parkade along Inglewood Park and confronted the men. The situation escalated and Prasad was shot. The three other suspects were arrested.

Prasad had an extensive criminal record, including previous charges of fraud, vehicle theft and resisting arrest.

The parkade had been plagued by break-ins and vandalism, with management posting a notice with photos captured by security cameras.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating.
