Navindra Pillay is the new president of the Fiji Bank and Finance Sector Employees Union Vanua Levu Branch.

Mr Pillay is an employee of the Fiji Development Bank in Labasa.

During the annual general meeting at Kshatriya Hall in Labasa on Saturday evening, Mr Pillay said collective discussion carries weight.

“A union is formed to bring together people from similar background or positions to discuss about certain changes which will help to create positive working environment,” Mr Pillay said.

“I believe in fair representation, democracy and equality.”

He advised his members to feel comfortable to discuss issues with the union.

“We have the power to negotiate with our employers,” Mr Pillay said.

The outgoing president was Divendra Vijay, who retired early this year.
