A number of khap panchayats have offered to tender an apology to Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu for the damage to his house in Rohtak during the Jat agitation in February.

Representatives of various khap panchayats met here today to discuss the Jat reservation issue and the arrest of Jat youths for violence during the stir.

Daljit Panghal, president of the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), said several khap representatives from Hisar, Rohtak, Sonepat, Jhajjar and Bhiwani districts attended the meeting, which adopted a resolution for tendering an apology to Capt Abhimanyu for the arson at his residence.

The family members of the minister were also inside the house when the incident took place in February. However, they managed to escape just in time.

Panghal said a delegation of the khap panchayats and AIJASS would seek time for a meeting with the minister soon. “We will urge Abhimanyu to release the accused nabbed for the arson at his house and apologise for the incident,” he said.

Surender Dahiya, Dahiya khap chief, said a delegation of 25 khap representatives would meet the minister in this connection soon.

Mahender Nandal, Dharampal Hooda, Jaisingh Ahlawat, Mahavir Kundu and Chandram Phaugat were among the prominent Jat leaders present at the meeting.
