Coimbatore: Five more students of the Sainik School at Udumalpet, Tirupur, were admitted at the government hospital there for mild fever on Saturday. Out of 24 students who were admitted on Friday, nine were discharged on Saturday. Health department officials have taken blood samples from more than 20 of the students and sent the samples to a laboratory in Coimbatore city to know the cause of the fever.

Meanwhile parents of Siddharth, student of the Sainik School who died due to high fever, demanded action against the school management for not providing proper medication to the student. "We don't know the cause of the death of the student Siddharth and we would know only after getting the post-mortem report. We expect that the report will come within two days. Then only we can furnish all the details," said KR Jayanthi, deputy director of public health and preventive medicine, Tirupur district.
She also added that the public health department has issued some instructions to the Sainik School authorities to maintain sanitation in the school and provide good food to the students.
On Thursday, Siddharth's father Vijayaragavan, a farmer, mother Punitha and his relatives from Palani in Dindigul district gathered at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where postmortem was conducted.
"Sainik School conducted various test including medical check-up for my son and finally he was selected for Class VI. He joined the school 15 days ago and was suffering from fever for more than three days. But he was given only one tablet and he was not provided due care by the school authorities. The school warden used to leave the campus around 8pm every day, after which the school and hostel campus were controlled by the senior students," said Vijayaragavan.
He also added that his son was asked to run early morning along with other students. "My son was not able to run that day," said Vijayaragavan.
He criticized the school authorities for not intimating him while his son was suffering from severe fever. The parents and relatives demanded that the police video-record the post-mortem. Siddharth's body was handed over to the parents on Saturday afternoon.
