Tried and Tested: Better breathing & living with Lampe Berger

Aromatherapy’s history as a form of medical treatment dates back 6,000 years for civilizations as early as the ancient Chinese, Indians and Egyptians.

These people used concentrated extracts of “essential oils” taken from plants for various spiritual, ritual or medical purposes.

Lampe Berger Paris today continues this age-old tradition. It brings to the table a unique indoor air purification and perfuming lamp that cleanses the air in your home and provides a long-lasting fragrance.

This lamp is the latest evolution of a unique technology invented in 1898 by pharmacy dispenser and company founder Maurice Berger.

He invented a system of “diffusion by catalysis” that he used to purify the air in hospital wards. Thanks to Berger’s addition of fragrances to his patented system, the lamps soon found their way to private use in homes.

The modern iteration of these lamps makes use of a special burner that diffuses different fragrances throughout a room. This improves air quality by eliminating odor-causing molecules in the air through a process called “catalytic oxidation”.

It is able to break down these molecules thanks to its ceramic catalytic burner. The odorous molecules get attracted to the heat generated by the catalysis and are then broken down and prevented from recombining.

By removing these molecules, the lamp eliminates bacteria and unpleasant odors. The process also has the added benefits of decomposing second-hand smoke and repelling insects such as dust mites and fleas.

Burning these lamps for just 20 to 30 minutes can also add fragrance to your home for hours.

Getting the best out of these Lampe Berger devices is simple. Start off by filling them up with one of the company’s fragrant oils until the lamp is two-thirds full. Insert the wick, let it soak up the oil, then light it. Blow out the flame after two minutes. Then put on the vented cap.

The heat coming off the top of the lamp and the accompanying fragrance coming out of it should be indication that the process was a success. Remove the vented cap after 20 minutes and put on a solid cap to stop the lamp from using more oil.

Customers can today choose from over 40 different selections of these nature-inspired fragrances–the most popular of which include Ocean Breeze, Orange Cinnamon and Winterwood–alongside various lamp burner styles and shapes to create a own personalized atmosphere.

Lamp models range from simple, cubic models to more elaborate ones inspired by baroque and Zen design. The company also provides special edition lamps signed by some of the most well-known names in contemporary design.

These air-purifying lamps enjoy an international distribution in 7,000 sales outlets in 56 countries around the world. They have recently been made available in the domestic market thanks to PT One Community Indonesia and can be purchased at the company’s stores throughout Indonesia.
