Soon, bridge from Beyt Dwarka to Gujarat mainland
NEW DELHI: The government has planned a 2.3km permanent bridge between Okha in Gujarat and Beyt Island, believed to be the seat of Lord Krishna's kingdom and palace, visited by 20-30 lakh pilgrims every year.
Located near Okha port, Beyt Island is currently inaccessible by road. Pilgrims use the ferry service operated by Gujarat Maritime Board, which is not available after sundown.
The Gujarat government had decided to connect Beyt Dwarka with the mainland by building a bridge at a cost of around Rs 350 crore .

“Recently, the highways ministry had given in-principle approval to convert the existing state highway connecting Okha into a national highway . A joint plan with the highways ministry is being worked out to improve connectivity between Beyt Dwarka and the mainland,“ a government official said.
Last week, Gujarat government officials had a discussion with representatives of the highway ministry . Besides promoting pilgri mage and tourism, the proposed bridge will also serve about 10,000 people living on Beyt Island.
Sources said the bridge's alignment has been worked out keeping in mind the existing eco-sensitive zone, marine national park and marine sanctuaries. Officials said part of the bridge would be cable-stayed and designs are being worked out to make it a “signature“ bridge considering the tourist importance of this religious place.
