Temple gifts from Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam to mark the annual ‘Anivara Asthanam’ celebrations were sent from here on Friday.

The gift included holy clothes for Sri Venkatachalapathy, Sri Alarmelu Mangai Thaayar, fruits and garlands. The gifts were meant for the presiding deities in Tirumala on Saturday when the Anivara Asthanam celebration falls.

P. Jayaraman, Joint Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, other temple officials and priests were present.

Thanksgiving

An official release issued here said that the gift marked a thanksgiving exercise for the safe custody extended to the idol of Namperumal at Tirumala for four decades during invasions between 1320 and 1360 AD.

To mark this occasion, two events are held every year. While the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam offers its gift to Srirangam every year during the Kaisika Ekadasi, the gifts from Srirangam temple is offered to Tirumala during Anivara Asthanam celebrations.
