Panaji: Master chef Savita Chavan of Goa will be using her culinary skills to serve the soldiers posted at Kargil with a sumptuous meal on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26.
The self-sponsored initiative has been welcomed by the Indian Army. Along with her cooking book, Savita will also be carrying around two thousand rakhis given to her by fellow Goan ladies for the soldiers in the Kargil sector.
Speaking about the occasion, Savita, a chef with about 20 years of experience in the catering industry, said she was really happy on being invited by the army. According to Savita, she was inspired to request the army for this event after meeting a few members of the Abhimanas Foundation, who conducted a bike expedition from Kolhapur to reach Kargil on Vijay Diwas last year.
“I was really inspired to do my bit after I met the bikers. I am really happy to receive the invitation by the army and will be serving the soldiers some Goan delicacies,” Savita, who will be accompanied by her daughter, said.
Army’s Major Renu Kumari, present at the event, said the army was delighted to be a part of such a cause. “The army looks forward to such causes as they help in creating the much-needed awareness about the armed forces among the youth of the country. The freedom we enjoy comes at the cost of our soldiers’ blood and sweat. In return they just want your respect,” the Major said.
