Two people were killed and another person was seriously injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into four camels in Ras Al Khaimah. All the camels were killed in the accident.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director-General of the Central Operations Room, RAK Police, said a 28-year-old Emirati, A.A.A., and a 32-year-old Comorian, H.M.A.
"Another Comorian passenger in his twenties, S.M.A., sustained grave injuries," he said.
Traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams rushed to the site after the police were alerted about the accident on Saturday at 5.30am.
"The paramedics provided first aids for the trio, but unfortunately two of them succumbed to the injuries whereas the third one was rushed to the nearest hospital."
According to initial investigations and eye witnesses, an Asian shepherd was herding his camels across the road after stopping the vehicles.
"A.A.A., who was speeding inattentively, did not see the camels and rammed into four of them," Brig Humaidi stated.
"The driver and the passenger sitting next to him on the front seat were killed on the spot while the third passenger was seriously injured."
The accident file was referred to the traffic prosecution. "All drivers are urged to remain attentive on the road, never get distracted and stick to the speed limit."
Dr Humaidi also urged owners of animals to keep an eye on them and keep them off the road for road users' safety.
