NSINGWENI – Chief Maloyi II of Nsingweni attempted suicide after a misunderstanding during a meeting held at the royal kraal a few weeks ago where a high ranking politician’s name featured.

The chief, who was installed into the position in 2010, said he has never lived to exercise his powers absolutely as the elders of his family embraced the presence of a certain individual, who participates in most of the meetings and takes decisions under the guise of being a prince (umntfwanenkhosi).

The Swazi News gathered this individual, whose identity cannot be revealed due to the allegations levelled against him, is not a blood relative of the chief and is no longer a subject of the chief as his family relocated from Nsingweni to another area over two decades ago.
The chief’s suicide attempt was reported to the Mliba Police Station where the station commander also paid him a visit to give him counselling and also advise on the jurisdiction of the police station as Nsingweni falls under the Hhohho.
Chief Maloyi said he reacted in a fit of anger after a meeting that was held the previous week where the individual attended without being invited by him, as he often does, allegedly.

“Earlier on that day, I had a discussion with my wife where I told her about my frustrations over the ongoing power-sharing spearheaded by some of my family elders, which I felt I was failing to control.”
He said this was after one of the many meetings that the individual had attended at the royal kraal, which ended up nasty because there was always an altercation due to disagreements between the two of them.

Explaining how the chief’s royal family embraced the man, the chief said he was among the delegation that accompanied him (chief) to His Majesty the King when he was to be installed.
The individual refuted allegations that he was interfering with chieftaincy operations at Nsingweni.
“I heard that the chief attempted suicide but this was after a meeting I had not attended. I know exactly where this emanates from but I cannot discuss it because it is only between me and him as no one else knows about it,” he said.
The high-ranking politician said he sometimes sat with the Nsingweni royal family in his capacity as a Dlamini but said he last did that a long time ago.

Special

“I was not present during the meetings recently and I am not aware the chief attempted suicide. Otherwise, I do attend the royal kraal meetings at Nsingweni because I hold a special position in the chieftaincy and nothing can be done there without my involvement. Even if I am away, I have informers who tell me everything that has been happening,” he insisted.
